Deep Hole Shrimping

With fall in full swing, cooler weather means it's time to load up on some Lowcountry gold—shrimp! Only a saltwater license is required, and you can fill a 48-quart cooler through November. As water temps dip, large quantities of shrimp are found in deep holes throughout the South Carolina waterway. These holes can be marked on your depth finder with some quick scouting and are often very close to many of the public boat ramps. A taped net is key to keeping the net open in the depths!

Nothing beats a crisp fall afternoon spent with good buddies loading up the freezer for the winter. And as Bubba from Forest Gump explains, "Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. There's shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich..."
